One-day Retreat 2-24-13
On Sunday, February 24th, we held our fifth one-day retreat, and the first in our own Zendo. Eleven people attended on a beautiful sunny day. We had a productive work period cleaning our space, preparing thank-you cards for people who donated to our New Home Fund, putting up our new sign, and preparing for our oryoki lunch. With no kitchen facilities or tables at which to eat, we set up a serving area in the hallway, kept a donated soup warm in the crockpot (thank you Jhunjhunwalas), prepared salad (thank you Susan) and bread, and served oryoki at our seats in the Zendo. A full oryoki meal (with servers) and the use of a densho bell (calling people to the Zendo for formal practice) were two forms we included in our practice for the first time. The day ended with cookies and tea, cookies made and donated, as they so often are, by Lauretta. (Click on any image for a larger, slideshow view.) Finally, photos by Jeff Young!
