Annual Precept Study 2021: 11-Class Series
Our annual study of the Buddhist moral precepts is led by senior students. It culminates in our annual precept ceremony on June 27th where people who completed precept study can formally become Zen Buddhists. April 13th – Karma Verse, Taking Refuge, and the Three Pure Precepts
April 20th – Do not kill – cultivate and encourage life.
April 27th – Do not steal – honor the gift not yet given.
May 4th – Do not misuse sexuality – remain faithful in relationships.
May 11th – Do not speak dishonestly – communicate truthfully.
May 18th – Do not become intoxicated – polish clarity, dispel delusion.
May 25th – Do not dwell on past mistakes – create wisdom from ignorance.
June 1st – Do not praise self or blame others – maintain modesty, extol virtue.
June 8th – Do not be mean with dharma or wealth – share understanding, give freely of self.
June 15th – Do not indulge anger – cultivate equanimity.
June 22nd – Do not defame the three treasures: Respect the buddha. Unfold the dharma. Nourish the sangha.
